1. To ensure FAIRNESS of the contest, the winners of the preliminary rounds will be chosen by audience
applause. Amateur Semi-final and Final round winners will be chosen by a panel of five professional judges
and four judges selected from the audience. Professional Semi-final and Final round winners will be chosen
by professional judges only.
2. Proper attire must be worn. Costumes are encouraged.
3. Contestants must sign-up in person, show I.D. and must be 21 or older.
4. Out of State/International Professional couples will compete on Saturday, May 17, 2008 in order to advance
to the Professional Finals that same evening! Only three couples will be chosen by professional judges and
will advance to the finals.
5. If any MONEY has been accepted for teaching, professional performances, or first Prize winners of previous
Mayan contests, you are considered a Professional. Previous amateur Mayan first prize winners can only
compete in the Professional division or in the amateur division if they have a different partner (who has not
been a first prize winner).
6. If one partner is considered Professional, then both partners must enter the professional division.
7. Contestants must check in at the Mayan by 9:15pm or you may be disqualified.
8. Preliminary rounds will be limited to 1 ½ minutes. Couples may bring their own Music (CD only) otherwise,
music will be chosen by the D.J. All Props must pre-approved by Miguelangel before the night of the event.
NO FIRE ALLOWED!
9. The dance order of contestants will be determined by lotto the night of the competition.
10. Contestants may re-enter the contest as many times as desired with the same or different partner until they
become Semi-finalists provided there is still room.
11. No new contestants may enter after the preliminary rounds are over.
12. No one may change partners after the preliminary rounds are over.
13. Contestants eligible for Semi-Finals and Final rounds must bring their own music (CD only) for a maximum of
two minutes.
14. Competitors must show proper etiquette during the contest by refraining from distracting behavior as other
contestants are dancing.
15. All couples competing in the Finals will receive a DVD of their own performance and a one year membership
to the Mayan. No video cameras are allowed!
16. Everyone in order to compete must understand and agree with the Mayan’s scoring process.
17. We reserve the right to deny participation to anyone.
18. All decisions are FINAL.
